People Exchanging Perspectives

Our Global Virtual Classroom Clubhouse PEP Experience

We began our student exchange in April 2011--a late start because the Filomata Programme 6 class in Poland had an unresponsive first match, but a great exchange in rapid sucession for both classrooms of students! Bogna (the teacher from Poland) and I decided we must make a quick decision to use the Internet effectively for the sake of our students. Because my school has an online LMS (learning management system), I suggested that a course designed specifically for our two classrooms to engage in a forum format would be a fun way for them to communicate with each other.

We created logins in our Moodle course and helped our students to use the forums. They learned that their lives were very similar; they like the same types of activities, love their families and their pets, and travel and visit relatives when they have holiday. My students were pleasantly surprised and engaged by their online conversations. It was a terrific opportunity for us to meet students for a cultural exchange and we hope to participate again in the future.
